Knowledge for
the Sulphuric Acid Industry Introduction
|
Cronifer 2803 Mo also known as Superferritic is a
iron-chromium-nickel alloy with controlled carbon and nitrogen contents, stabilized with
niobium. The material has excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in
chloride containing media. Its high chromium content gives outstanding resistance to corrosion in oxidizing media such as hot, concentrated sulphuric acid where it is used in heat recovery systems in sulphuric acid plants. Cronifer 2803 Mo is also produced as longitudinally welded thin wall tubing for heat exchanger using chloride containing cooling water. Typical applications include seawater or brackish water cooling systems in power stations, seawater desalination plants, storage and transportation of organic and inorganic acids and sulphuric acid production. A patent application has been submitted for the use of this material in sulphuric acid plants.
SEA-CUREŽ is a registered Trademark of Crucible Materials Corporation Cronifer 2803 Mo and SEA-CUREŽ share the same UNS number. The composition of the materials are similar but SEA-CURE allows the presence of Mn, Si, P and S and Cronifer 2803 Mo has more stringent specification for C, N and Nb. SEA-CUREŽ should not be considered as a direct substitute for Cronifer 2803 Mo in hot, concentrated sulphuric acid service without prior testing. Avesta make a version of 1.4575 called Monit which has a slightly different composition. No information available UNS S44660 Werkstoff No. 1.4575 X 1 CrNiMoNb 28 4 2 ASTM A268 Grade 26-3-3
(1) Krupp VDM literature refers to ASTM A176 as an applicable specification but only UNS S44600 is listed in the specification.
