General The Ausmelt technology zinc fuming plant will recover lead and zinc to a high grade fume by using two Ausmelt furnaces to process up to 100,000 tpa of zinc residues generated from Young Poong’s existing operations.

Founded in 1949, Young Poong, Corp. was Korea’s main exporter of zinc concentrate in the 1960s. In order to break Korea’s heavy reliance on imported zinc ingots, Young Poong, Corp. established a zinc refinery in Sukpo, Bongwhagun, Gyungsangbukdo in 1970, emerging as a leading manufacturer of non-ferrous metals.
In 1974, Young Poong, Corp. established the Korea Zinc Company, a subsidiary, in Onsan, Gyungsangnamdo, and the completion of Onsan Zinc Refinery secured Young Poong’s dominant position in the domestic zinc market. The registration of our brand on the London Metal Exchange (LME) in 1988 confirmed the superior quality of our zinc products. Sukpo Refinery underwent continuing expansion through increased investment. In June 1999, Young Poong, Corp. implemented a state-of-the-art super jumbo cathode tank house system that greatly improved its product quality and productivity. Currently we have the capacity of producing 280,000 tons of top-quality zinc ingot a year. We actively pursue developing environment-friendly technology in our zinc recycling facilities.
In 1996, Young Poong, Corp. diversified its production lines by establishing a rechargeable battery manufacturing company in Ansung, Gyunggido.
