General	Due to the neglect of these habits in the first years of Sulfometales, pyrite ashes (residue from the roasting of the mineral) accumulated. Starting in the 1990s, sulfuric acid was produced using sulfur imported from Matanzas, and it was no longer necessary to continue roasting pyrite. Even so, "the ashes stayed there, and as nobody demanded ... The environmental authorities came, but they were very superficial." Once the Sulfometales factory closed in 2008, when UEB Producciones Industriales was founded, the environmental culture began to be encouraged. And the retaining wall that divides the river was built, the gas scrubbing system with water was eliminated and a filter was installed to clean the vapors emanating from the foundry's chimney (this UEB is dedicated, to a large extent, to the production of lead ingots from recycled raw materials). http://bohemia.cu/en-cuba/2021/05/el-pesado-silencio-del-compresor-de-aire/
