News November 5, 2014 - A modern plant of mixed fertilizers (NPK), much needed to raise agricultural yields and with capacity to produce 150 000 tonnes per year, rising here by forces brigade Serviquímica Steel fabrication and welding of Nuevitas, Camagüey.  Armando Diaz Velasquez, head of the gang rushing the work, said civil construction already completed and began assembling structures where they located the equipment and other components. We have a few days late in relation to the implementation schedule, but the work is carried out with the quality demanded, said recognizing the good care they receive integrally operators.  Aramis Hernandez, director Rayonitro basic business unit, explained that the investment amounts to more than six million pesos in total currency, and includes the installation of equipment that comes basically Mechanical Plant, in Villa Clara.  He said that the new unit, which should be launched in the first quarter of next year, includes a multi grim, conveyors, mixer and a machine for bagging the final product. Up to six formulas produce mixed fertilizers, instead of one as is currently achieved, it is one of the main advantages of the future plant.  In order to protect the fertilizer, the investment also includes the construction of warehouses to guarantee the raw material and the finished product. These storage capabilities provide marketing by sea and therefore offer a solution to one of the most recurrent problems Rayonitro: the transportation of fertilizer.  The management meant that the production of mixed fertilizers is a variant of complete physical mixtures which produces formulas bases by semi-processed raw materials, with the added benefit of not impacting the environment as use neither sulfuric acid nor ammonia in the production process.  To date Rayonitro accumulates more than 23 000 tonnes, lower volume than expected but allowed to meet the demand to start planting potatoes and other commitments of Agriculture in a very timely manner, Aramis Hernandez said.  He said that at the end of this year the small Matanzas plant, unstable technical availability, should be completed at most about 35 000 tonnes, so it was decided to produce about 6000 tons of fertilizer in Nuevitas to cover somehow demand in the east of the country.

August 19, 2013 - The Cuban chemical industry is recuperating its production capacities in several provinces of the country in order to meet the needs of the domestic economy.  In this sense, specialists from the Rayonitro Company, in the western province of Matanzas, are working on the reactivation of the sulfuric acid plant which has not functioned for three years.  The plant has benefited from an investment close to five million pesos in order to reactivate the furnaces, boilers, gas ducts, instruments and the processing tank.  The production is mainly used in the water treatment of the thermoelectric plants in the country, as well as in oil refineries, nickel plants and the sugar industry.  Likewise, the plant also produces light chemicals such as battery acid and acids for domestic use.
