General

Safi complex, the first chemical industry site constructed by OCP Group, started up in 1965 to process the Gantour phosphate rock. It is composed of three units: Maroc Chimie, Maroc Phosphore I and Maroc Phosphore II.

From a legal point of view, Maroc Chimie is an integral part of Maroc Phosphore since 1996. The unit can annually produce 400,000 tons P2O5 of phosphoric acid and three types of fertilizers.
Brought into operation in 1965, the Maroc Chimie unit covers an area of 50 hectares. The sulphuric acid plant is composed of 2 production lines using Monsanto process and a third line using the heat recovery system (HRS). The phosphoric acid plant includes 4 production lines, of which 3 use the Rhone-Poulenc process, with the last one using the Prayon process. As concerns the fertilizer plant, it has 3 lines, producing TSP, NPK and ASP. The plant is also equipped with a fresh water treatment station, a pumping station and 3 turbine generator units.

June 29, 2011 - FLSmidth has received an order worth approximately EUR 90m from the Moroccan company, OCP Office Chérifien des Phosphates, to supply equipment for a phosphate terminal for the Jorf Lasfar port at the Atlantic coast, some 120 km south of the capital Casablanca.  Phosphate, a mineral mainly used in agricultural fertiliser, is a growing market that is independent of the cyclical demand for metals.  The scope of supply includes complete engineering, design, fabrication of all steel structures and mechanical parts, procurement of all standard components, erection and commissioning. The order comprises two sulphur shiploaders each with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes per hour, two fertiliser shiploaders also with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes per hour each, two sulphur screw unloaders with an hourly capacity of 2,300 tonnes each and two sulphur grab unloaders each with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes per hour. All the equipment will be supplied complete with appertaining belt conveyors. FLSmidth will also supply miscellaneous auxiliary equipment such as electrical equipment, a fire fighting system and dust suppression equipment.  "This order demonstrates our increasingly strong position as a preferred provider of material handling equipment to the minerals industries. It also confirms the great opportunities within the phosphate industry, which is not cyclical" CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen, FLSmidth says.
