March 6, 2026 - Coromandel International has commenced trial production at its newly established Phosphoric Acid (PA) and Sulphuric Acid (SA) plants in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The facilities boast capacities of 650 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) for PA and 2,000 TPD for SA, respectively.  This development signals a significant step towards transforming the Kakinada unit into a fully integrated manufacturing complex, aimed at enhancing overall production capabilities and reducing reliance on imported raw materials for fertiliser production.  Coromandel International announced the commencement of trial production at its new Phosphoric Acid (PA) and Sulphuric Acid (SA) plants located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.  The PA plant has a capacity of 650 TPD, while the SA plant is designed for 2,000 TPD.  This marks a critical phase after earlier intimations, including a board approval for the project in January 2024, signalling progress towards operational readiness.  The integration of these acid plants is strategic, aligning with Coromandel's objective to strengthen backward integration in its fertiliser manufacturing value chain.  By producing key intermediates like PA and SA in-house, the company aims to secure stable supplies, enhance cost efficiencies, and achieve greater self-sufficiency, thereby reducing dependence on imported raw materials.  Coromandel International, a leading agri-solutions provider, had previously announced an investment of approximately ₹1,000-1,029 crore for these new PA and SA plants at Kakinada. The project, approved in January 2024, was planned for commissioning within two years. Groundbreaking ceremonies occurred around April 2024.  The initiative aims to replace over 50% of the Kakinada plant's imported acid requirements and mirror the integration levels seen at its Vizag and Ennore facilities. Coromandel, a major player in India's phosphatic fertiliser market, operates a diverse range of manufacturing units across the country.
