News November 2021 - Chemetics Inc. has been awarded a contract by Bodal Chemicals Ltd., India for a new 1050 MTPD sulfuric acid plant using solid sulfur as feedstock. The plant will produce both 32-33% oleum and 98.5% sulfuric acid as products which will be used by Bodal Chemicals Ltd. for the production of dye intermediates. Based on vision and desire of Bodal Chemicals Ltd. for conservation of water and maximization energy recovery, the new sulfuric acid plant will be designed using an air-cooled cooling water system and an enhanced boiler feed water preheating system with SARAMET® acid coolers.  This project continues Chemetics success in serving the Indian sulfuric acid market.  In the last three years Chemetics has signed contracts for three new sulfuric acid plants and several sulfuric acid concentration plants in India.

August 29, 2011
- Bodal Chemicals announced the divestiture of its Single Super Phosphate (S.S.P.) Plant situated at Padra, Vadodara for a cash consideration of Rs 640 Cr to Kiri Dyes, Ahmedabad.   The transaction was approved in the meeting of the board of directors held at Ahmedabad. The business transfer agreement was executed by both the parties today. The transaction will be done by way of slump sale and is expected to be completed by Sept. 2011.  The CMD, who was bullish on Agricultural opportunity in 2009-10 (Annual Report atleast) had said earlier.  "Considering the future growth planning and as a part of diversification strategy of the company, your company has identified the Technology based Agricultural Business for exploiting the opportunities for diversification. .."  There are ample opportunities in Agriculture business and its related technologies business. The Agriculture business covers area of contract farming, fertilisers like SSP, plant development, agriculture equipments etc.  A 3.5 lacs MTPA, SSP Plant will be implemented, at a cost of about Rs. 31 Cr, near by ur existing manufacturing facility of Sulphuric Acid, Dye Intermediates and Dyes, located at our Padra unit, Vadodara. SSP plant will use Sulphuric Acid as key raw material for roducing SSP. Our 450TPD Sulphuric Acid plant has already been commenced.  Your Company is producing major Dye Intermediates like Vinyl Sulphone Esater, DASA, FC Acid in huge quantity i.e. 2000 MT PM  which generates 150MT PD of Spent Sulphuric Acid (Concentrate 25 to 30%) and the same will be consumed as raw material in the SSP plant. It directly saves purification cost of about Rs. 1.00 Lac per day. So Spent Sulphuric Acid is available at free of cost as a part of raw material and there is also saving in purification cost.  The Company expects that SSP plant will generate Rs. 240 crore Turnover and having 20 to 25% operating profitability margin. The construction work of SSP plant will be started after necessary formalities/approvals. Once the construction work of SSP plant start, it will take a time of 15-18 months for commencement of production."   And now he says"The transaction is a win win for Bodal Chemicals (Q,N,C,F)* and will infuse huge cash of Rs 6.40 billion in the company. The liquidity generated through the transaction will be used for repayment of debt and diversification. The company will become zero debt company after the repayment of existing debts and still plenty of cash will be available with the company. "

September 14, 2010 - Bodal Chemicals Ltd, India’s leading manufacturer and marketer of Dye and Dye intermediates, has announced the setting up of a wholly owned subsidiary Bodal AgroTech to lead its foray into agri-input space.  Leveraging the synergies with the parent firm, Bodal AgroTech plans to set up a Single Super Phosphate plant near Bodal’s existing manufacturing facilities at Padra, Vadodara, for Sulphuric Acid, Dyes and Dye Intermediates. The SSP plant will have a capacity of 3.5 MTPA and built at an investment of about Rs 31 crore.  Suresh Patel, Chairman and MD of Bodal Chemicals said, “India is the 2nd largest producer of agrochemicals in Asia. The domestic agrochemicals & fertilizers market size is huge  and growing at 10%. Bodal AgroTech’s SSP plant is a perfect forward integration as its main raw material is spent Sulphuric Acid which is readily available in house in large quantities. By setting up the SSP plant, we shall save substantially on purification and raw material costs of the sulphuric acid. It is expected to have 20 to 25% operating profitability margin. We expect the plant to be ready within 18 months of ground-breaking. The SSP plant when fully operational is expected to generate a Rs. 240 crore per year turnover.  Bodal AgroTech will also produce NPK mixed fertilisers (Nitrogen – Phosphorous – Potassium), used in different concentrations for various crops. Since SSP is not a standalone fertilizer, it can be used to provide various Micro Nutrients useful for the Growth. The SSP will be manufactured in both powder and granulated form.  Bodal Chemicals produces 2000 MT per month of major Dye Intermediates (like Vinyl Sulphone Ester, DASA, F C Acid) that generates 150MT PD of Spent Sulphuric Acid (Concentrate 25 to 30% ). This will be consumed as raw material in the SSP plant. Bodal Chemical is pursuing a forward and backward integration strategy for growth and profitability. Bodal the only company in India with fully integrated product range from basic chemicals, wide range of dye intermediates and dyestuffs.  Bodal has successfully commissioned its Rs 43 crore 12000 MTPA Dyes plant at Padra, near Vadodara taking its annual manufacturing capacity of Dyes to 17000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) and has added substantially to its range of quality dyes to cater to a wide set of customers.  During July 2010, a Rs. 620mn, 650 TPD Sulphuric Acid plant has been successfully commissioned at Padra, Vadodara. Sulphuric acid is a key raw material for manufacture of Dyes & Dyestuff and contributes 8% to cost of production. Furthermore, the Company has commissioned Rs.23 crore Beta Nephthol plant and a Rs 2 crore PNA plant in 2009 at Padra, near Vadodara.

July 13, 2010 - Bodal Chemicals Ltd, manufacturer and marketer of dye and dye intermediates, will begin the commercial production at its Vadodara plant on July 25. The new manufacturing plant for sulphuric acid plant, which will have a production capacity of 650 tonnes per day, has been set up at an investment of Rs 62 crore.  Suresh Patel, chairman and managing director of Bodal Chemicals said, "With this new plant in place we now have eight facilities located across Gujarat. The new facility has been successfully tested and we are looking forward to its commencement. The plant would prove as a cost beneficial to Bodal Chemicals as this facility will generate power and steam which will be used to run this plant and our dye plant. This will also reduce the overall fuel consumption and thus transportation and production cost to a great extent. The plant is an example of our commitment to building value for customers and driving operational efficiencies. By setting up this plant we are integrating across the value chain to have better control over margins."  According to a press release issued by the company, sulphuric acid contributes 8 per cent to costs of production and is a low value and high volume item (consumption of about 5000 to 7000 MT per month. The facility will have a capacity to produce 1.45 lakh tone of sulphuric acid per annum, of which 70 per cent will be for captive consumption and 30 per cent will be for sale to various other companies in the same sector. After setting up this commercial plant, the company will now not be dependent on external suppliers for sulphuric acid. This backward integration will prove highly beneficial, since sulphuric acid is one of the key raw materials for all dye Intermediates, the release further stated.
