General

Atul Ltd is a chemical conglomerate, serving customers in national and international markets. The first manufacturing site of the Company - spread over 1,250 acres in Gujarat, India - is an integrated chemical complex.

Atul was founded by an Indian industrialist, Mr Kasturbhai Lalbhai, on September 15, 1947 - exactly a month after India became independent. His dream was to make India self reliant in its requirements of chemicals, generate employment on a large-scale and create wealth in rural parts of India.

Atul happens to be the first private sector company of India to be inaugurated by its first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on March 17, 1952. First called The Atul Products Ltd, the name was changed to Atul Products Ltd in 1988 and to its present name in 1996. Atul, in Gujarati language, means ‘Incomparable’ or ‘Unique’. Atul village derived its name from that of the Company.

Atul has brought many products to India for the first time - Sulphur Black, Disperse, Reactive and Vat dyes, 2,4-D Acid and its derivatives, Epoxy resins and hardeners, Phosgene, Sulphonylureas, etc to name a few. The Company also established Atul Rajasthan Date Palms Ltd (74% Atul, 26% Government of Rajasthan) to produce, for the first time in India, tissue cultured date palms to enhance ecology and economy of the arid regions.

Atul serves about 4,000 customers belonging to diverse industries, namely, Aerospace, Adhesives, Agriculture, Animal Feed, Automobile, Composites, Construction, Cosmetic, Defence, Dyestuff, Electrical and Electronics, Flavour and Fragrance, Glass, Home Care, Paint and Coatings, Paper, Personal Care, Pharmaceutical, Plastic, Polymer, Rubber, Soap and Detergent, Textile and Tyre, in 80 countries.
