Remarks The shop is intended for the cleaning of the coke-oven gas from the hydrogen sulphide using the vacuum-carbonate process followed by the preparation of the technical sulphuric acid from the hydro-sulphuric gas using the wet catalysis process.   The desulphurization shop design capacity for the quantity of the gas being cleared is 200,000 m3/h.  The reconstruction in 2005-2009 made it possible to keep on the existing vacuum-carbonate process of the coke-oven gas clearing from the H2S by the modernization of the acting scheme with two stages of the recovery and regeneration with the installation of the sulphuric acid preparation  as per WSA technology of the Dutch company Haldor Topsøe.

In 2009 the 2nd stage of construction was accomplished, during which the following works were carried out: construction-installation works, pre-startup and adjustment works in order to provide the start-up of the equipment of new sulphuric acid department of DS by the WSA method.  According to the order of the Enterprise dated 09-11-2009 No. 1034 the switching to the sulphurated hydrogen gas of the new boiler furnaces and the new equipment for obtaining the sulphuric acid was carried out.

The design cleaning of coke gas from the sulphuraged hydrogen in amount of 0.11 g/m3 provided.

In 2009, within the frames of construction of the coke batteries set No. 3-4 and DS, the construction of exhausted solutions unit was carried out, the start-up of which is planned for 2010.

News January 13, 2006 - Krivorozhstal has been officially renamed to Mittal Steel Krivoy Rog, Mittal Steel announced. The respective decision was made at the company’s EGM recently held in Krivoy Rog and during which Narendra Chaudhary took up the office of the company’s GD. Mittal Steel Krivoy Rog (former Krivorozhstal) is the largest metal enterprise in Ukraine with production capacity allowing to annually make over 20 million tons of rolled metal, steel and cast iron.  Founded by the Indian Mittal family, Mittal Steel Germany GmbH acquired 93.02 percent in Krivorozhstal at the tender on October 24, 2005. Other bidders were Smart-Group LLC (Dnepropetrovsk), which is co-owned by the British company, Swiss company and three Russia’s firms, and Industrial Group Consortium, where Arcelor holds 60 percent and Donetsk ISD has 40 percent.  The pre-history of the tender seems worth mentioning, as it had to overcome strong opposition of Ukrainian parliament. Supreme Rada of Ukraine twice attempted to terminate the sale of the metal enterprise, viewing it “strategically vital for economy and security of Ukraine,” but the tender was bolstered up by President Viktor Yushchenko, who vowed “nothing would stop” privatization of Krivorozhstal slated for October 24, 2005.   At the tender, the starting bid of Industrial Group (equivalent to $2.495 billion) was the highest, while Mittal Steel Germany GmbH and Smart-Group LLC offered $2.079 billion each. Nevertheless, Mittal Steel managed to outbid the rivals in the course of the trading, where the increment was $20 million, and finally acquire the enterprise.
