General GDI has successfully implemented its first specialty chemical solvent project in Jubail, which will be on stream by 1st Quarter 2015. It is the first plant manufacturing Sulfolane Product on the MENA Region, and one of the few manufacturers of liquid sulfur dioxide (Liquid SO2). The facility also produces a sulfuric acid as a byproduct in commercial quantities. This strategic investment uses advanced technology to target both local and foreign demands.

ADDAR Chemicals Company (ACC) was established in December 2013 as a partnership between Saudi investors driven by the vision to develop a key value adding activity to the Saudi Chemical Industry.ACC aims at becoming a leading market player in the chemical industry sector in Saudi Arabia through developing its own projects or investing in upcoming projects in the specialty chemicals & in the field of sulfur derivatives.Specialized chemical solvent factory (SCSF) is the ACC’s first project. it is the first plant in the MENA region producing Sulfolane. The factory site consists of four main process areas: Sulfolane, Sulfuric Acid, Sulfur Dioxide & Hydrogen Plants. in addition to that, other non-process facilities such as utility block, DCS/MCC building, effluents treatment plant, storage areas and warehouse.

News March, 26, 2015 - ADDAR has awarded Indian EPC company, Nuberg Engineering, a turnkey contract for its Greenfield Sulfolane and speciality chemical plant in Saudi Arabia. The contract valued at $35 million is a major win for Nuberg, which is a specialized EPC contractor for chemical plants. The entire project is worth $60 million all-inclusive. The turnkey project was bagged against several global competitive bids by major international EPC contractors originating from countries like India, Saudi Arabia, Korea and Europe. The scope of the chemical plant project includes residual engineering, procurement, supply, construction, fabrication and commissioning. The project is augmented by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of India's largest conglomerate, is the detail engineering partner of the chemical plant. The technology and basic engineering partner of the project is GTC Technologies, another giant of the industry originating from US.
ADDAR, one of the leading conglomerate firms in Saudi Arabia, was formed as an independent entity by His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Ibn Salamah, Ex-Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).Located in Jubail Industrial City, the largest industrial city in the Middle East and home to many of world's largest chemical and petrochemical plants, the facility will manufacture Sulfolane and other specialty chemical products for downstream and petrochemical/oil and energy industry. The chemical plant will supply to the local Saudi market as well as the wider Middle East, Africa (MEA) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. Also, it may cater to markets having similar critical needs, including Eastern Europe, India, China and South East Asia.
Seen as one of the largest green-field specialty chemical complex with various upcoming new products for the downstream and petrochemical/oil and energy industry, the project is scheduled to commence during the first quarter of 2017.
Mr. A.K. Tyagi, MD, Nuberg Engineering, said, "Being a specialised EPC supplier for chemical plants, Saudi Arabia is a core country for Nuberg EPC business and ADDAR our key customer. This EPC contract represents another significant step in building our capability and consolidating our position as a major EPC company of Indian origin in the MENA (Middle East North Africa) & Gulf region. Jubail is one of Nuberg's most remarkable achievements and with this project we get to penetrate into one of the world's largest industrial area. Jubail is the hub for all the major global EPC suppliers and entry in this area is definitely a huge leap of growth. We have a proven track record of two decades in EPC projects, operations maintenance and engineering services, underpinned by our strong local technical capability. This EPC project for a specialty chemical plant is an excellent illustration of our strategy in action and is an ideal opportunity to support our longer-term competitive edge in Saudi Arabia and we look forward to working with ADDAR to deliver world class variety of engineering services that this project has the potential to offer."
Dr. Ibrahim Ibn Salamah, Chairman ADDAR Chemicals Company (ACC), said, "I am very delighted with this announcement as it will bring a progressive growth of essential downstream projects to Saudi Arabia. This comprehensive facility will escort enhanced capabilities and capacity to ACC's business in the country and will pave a perfect road to diversify employment opportunities for the people. Nuberg has consistently displayed extensive knowledge and experience across various other EPC projects worldwide and we are confident that the team will bring significant value to the project. We look forward to working with Nuberg as we bring this chemical project to life."
Sulfolane an industrial solvent widely used in gas production, oil refinery and fertilizer plants. In the chemical industry it is used as an extractive distillation solvent and reaction solvent. Solvent has many other uses in manufacturing industries such as plastics, textiles, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and electronics.
With 18 years of global experience in EPC business across 30+ countries, Nuberg Engineering has not only become a landmark in the Indian EPC industry but has also achieved a soaring height in UAE and Middle East. Having started its first EPC chemical plant in Bangladesh for its customer, TASNIM, the organization now reinforces its leadership by executing three out of four Chlor Alkali projects in UAE. Presently, Nuberg is executing 4 EPC projects in UAE, simultaneously on behalf of Al Ghaith (Abu Dhabi), Union Chlorine (Abu Dhabi) and Gulf Chlorine (Qatar). Backed by state-of-the-art fabrication facility in the industrial hub of Noida and Gujarat, the company follows global benchmarks and stringent quality processes with the help of global tie-ups.
