General	Safi complex, the first chemical industry site constructed by OCP Group, started up in 1965 to process the Gantour phosphate rock. It is composed of three units: Maroc Chimie, Maroc Phosphore I and Maroc Phosphore II. Brought into operation in 1975, the Maroc Phosphore I unit covers an area of 36 hectares. The sulphuric acid plant includes a sulphur melting-filtration unit and 4 acid production lines using the Polimex process. The phosphoric acid plant is composed of 4 acid production lines, of which 3 use the Nissan process and the forth one the Rhone-Poulenc process. The fertilizer plant includes 2 MAP production lines using the Fisons Manifos process. The unit is also equipped with a fresh water treatment station, a sea water pumping station of 3 turbine generator units.
