General IFFCO and Jordan Phosphates Mines Company Ltd (JPMC), Jordan have formed a Limited Liability Joint Venture Company, namely Jordan India Fertiliser Company (JIFCO) on March 6, 2008 in Amman, Jordan under the ‘Free Zone’ system to set up a Phosphoric Acid Plant with annual capacity of 4,75,000 tonnes P2O5 and a Sulphuric Acid plant with annual capacity of 14,25,000 tonnes Sulphuric Acid at Eshidiya in Jordan.

IFFCO (27%) and Kisan International Trading FZE, Dubai (25%) together hold 52% equity, while JPMC holds 48% equity.

According to the long term Rock Supply Agreement, JPMC will make available the required quantity of Rock Phosphate for the project and KIT will purchase minimum 70% of Phosphoric Acid produced under a long term Phosphoric Acid Off-Take Agreement.

The Foundation Stone of the plant was laid at Eshidiya Site on October 3, 2009. October 14, 2010 has been declared as zero date of the project. SNC Lavalin International, France, is the Project Manager under Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Contract. The plant is under construction and expected to achieve commercial production by July 2013.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and European Investment Bank (EIB) were the Lead Financial Arrangers cum Advisors for syndication of Debt of US$ 335.5 million for the Project. The Financial Closure has been achieved and the disbursement of loan by the lenders has commenced.

News October 10, 2015 - President Pranab Mukherjee and Jordananian King Abdullah II today inaugurated the world's largest sulphuric acid plant, an Indian joint venture built at a cost of $860 million.  The joint venture between IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited) and JPMC (Jordanian Phosphate Mines Company) plant, which was conceived in 2007, is now operational in the town of Eshidiya, 325 kms from Jordan's capital city of Amman.  The plant will come as a huge relief to India's agricultural sector requirements in view of meagre availability of phosphates in India.  Phosphoric acid produced at the plant will be exported to the Kandla port in Gujarat from Jordan's Aqaba port, which is close to the location of the plant.  International Finance Corporation (IFC) has given a loan of $335 million to the project in which IFFCO has a 52 per cent stake.  The two leaders inaugurated the plant using remote buttons, with the project and workers.  IFFCO’s Managing Director and CEO, U S Awasthi, thanked the king for his support to the project and announced a grant of 1,00,000 Jordanian Dinars to Queen Alia’s fund to support education in Jordan.  President Mukherjee today arrived here on the first leg of his six-day historic visit to turbulent West Asia.

- The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) is all set to start importing phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid which shall be produced at the Eshidiya plant in Jordan by the fourth quarter of 2012.  “The imported phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid will be used to produce fertilisers in IFFCO's di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) plants, as well as in its nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium plants,” IFFCO Senior Executive Director SC Mittal informed during an internal event known as “ICT, Knitting the IFFCO family" here.  It is worth mentioning here that in March 2010, the JV company formed between IFFCO and Jordan Phosphate Mines Company Limited (JOPH) had awarded a contract for engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) to SNC-Lavalin Incorporated to build a phosphoric acid plant that, along with a sulphuric acid production line, in the industrial zone of Eshidiya some 200 kilometres south of Amman.  Though, construction has commenced, and installation of the production lines and utilities is scheduled to begin later this year.  Upon completion by the end of 2012, the US$ 400 million phosphoric acid plant is expected to produce 500,000 tonnes per year of phosphoric acid. The US$ 225 million sulphuric acid production line addition, which will follow the plant's construction schedule, is expected to yield 4,500 tonnes per day of sulphuric acid.  JOPH, Jordan's largest fertiliser producer, which holds 48 per cent stake in the joint venture with IFFCO, has agreed that all of the raw acid from the Jordanian plant would be exported to India for IFFCO, which holds a 52 per cent in the venture. IFFCO is also looking at exporting the end products to the world market.

May 18, 2010 - SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that SNC-Lavalin in Europe has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) contract to build a grassroots sulphuric/phosphoric acid complex including utilities and a power plant in Eshidya, Jordan by JIFCO, a joint venture company owned by Jordanian Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). JPMC is a leading phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and fertilizer producer in Jordan, and IFFCO is the largest fertilizer producer and distributor cooperative in India. The total estimated investment value of the project is about CAN$630 million (US$625 million).  SNC-Lavalin will provide overall project management, detailed design, proprietary equipment items and construction management for the facilities. This world-class complex will have a capacity of 500,000 tonnes/year of phosphoric acid. It includes a single line sulphuric acid plant with a capacity of 4,500 tonnes/day, making it the largest single stream unit in the world.  "This contract reflects our notable experience and technical capabilities in the fertilizer field" said Jean Claude Pingat, Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and President, SNC-Lavalin in Europe. "It is also an excellent example of how SNC-Lavalin creates synergies among its various areas of expertise to bring added value to its clients, in this case the provision and integration of sulphuric and phosphoric acid plants and other associated facilities."  Work will begin immediately and production start-up is expected before the end of 2012.
